An answer of 0.75 can be correct and still tell you very little about whether an AI tutor helped you learn.
Can you explain where it came from? Could you solve a related problem without reopening the chat? Does the explanation match the question you were actually asked?
Those are more useful questions than which app describes itself as the best AI for IB students.
This guide compares tools for explanations, question practice, coursework support and note making, using product documentation checked on 29 September 2026.
This comparison is based on published features, not live trials. The shared IB question is a repeatable check you can run yourself, not evidence that one platform outperformed another.
If you are moving from MYP into the Diploma Programme, the MYP to DP transition guide can also help you separate a general study tool from the resources you actually need for DP subjects and assessment.
One Real IB Question to Use Across Every Tool
Use Question 1 from the IB’s official Mathematics AA HL Paper 1 specimen paper, published for first examinations in 2021. In compact notation, the question is:
Given P(A)=0.5, P(B)=0.4 and P(A∪B)=0.6, find P(A|B).
Keep this question identical when comparing ChatGPT, Professor Curious, Newton, Jojo, Google’s Gemini Notebook and Koncepts. Record the date, plan and mode used so you know what you are comparing. Start with the same instruction:
Help me solve this without a calculator. Give one hint at a time and wait for my response. Do not reveal the final answer first.
The reference solution, not an output from any compared tool, is:
P(A ∩ B) = 0.5 + 0.4 - 0.6 = 0.3.
P(A | B) = P(A ∩ B) / P(B) = 0.3 / 0.4 = 0.75.
The official markscheme supports this method and also accepts a valid Venn diagram approach.
Look beyond the final number. Does the tutor help distinguish the union from the intersection? Can it explain why the denominator is P(B)? Does it leave you something to work out?
For a second round, provide every tool with the same official solution and ask it to connect each step to your working. Record which materials each tool can actually accept. An unsupported upload is a feature limitation, not an incorrect mathematical answer.
One question cannot establish performance across the IB, or test note making and coursework support adequately. Use it as an initial check, not a verdict.
MYP students can apply the same approach to a task supplied by their teacher, using the accompanying criteria rather than assuming this DP example covers their assessment needs. The best MYP revision resources guide provides a broader framework for comparing resources by the actual study task they support.
For Explanations: ChatGPT and Professor Curious
ChatGPT is worth considering when you need a concept explained differently. OpenAI’s Study Mode documentation describes guided questions, layered explanations, understanding checks and support for uploaded course materials.
That makes it misleading to claim a general chatbot has never encountered a markscheme. Students can provide relevant materials. The practical question is whether the response uses the correct source accurately.
On the shared probability question, ask ChatGPT to explain conditional probability before moving through the calculation. Keep your course, level and paper restrictions explicit.
The limitation is documented rather than hypothetical: OpenAI says Study Mode can make mistakes and may sometimes give a direct answer despite its intended approach. A fluent explanation still needs checking.
Professor Curious combines explanations with study activities. Its current product page advertises guided explanations, question scanning, flashcards, notes, quizzes and IB subject support.
That makes it a candidate for students who want to move between understanding a question and reviewing the underlying concept.
However, the published feature list does not establish how accurately it handles your exact IB course or an unfamiliar markscheme. For the shared question, look for a genuine explanation of "given B", not merely a sequence of substitutions. Treat that as something to test, not a capability already demonstrated here.
For IB Question Practice: Newton and RevisionDojo
Revision Village’s Newton is closely connected to its practice resources. Revision Village describes Newton as providing personalised hints, coaching and feedback while students work through its question resources.
Its Newton product page explicitly advertises:
“Feedback directly against the IB mark scheme”
That is a specific claim worth investigating, especially when you already use Revision Village questions. It is not independent evidence that every response is correct.
For the shared probability question, distinguish guidance on an uploaded or separately entered question from guidance inside Newton’s existing question context. Do not assume both have the same supporting material.
Access also matters. Revision Village’s public page ties Newton functionality to its wider paid study environment and notes usage conditions. Check the current terms before buying access mainly for AI support.
RevisionDojo’s Jojo brings conversation into a broader IB revision platform. Its current Jojo documentation describes subject, level and syllabus context, together with assessment references and support for working through problems rather than simply presenting an answer.
RevisionDojo also connects Jojo with notes, practice questions, flashcards and coursework tools.
For the shared question, inspect whether Jojo helps you identify the missing intersection before applying conditional probability.
The distinction to preserve is between convenient integration and demonstrated accuracy. An integrated platform may suit your routine, but its own feature list does not prove that its explanation is better than another tool’s response.
For Note Making: Google’s Gemini Notebook
Google’s Gemini Notebook documentation describes a source-grounded research and study environment that can accept materials such as PDFs, websites, audio and Google files. It can answer questions using those sources and generate formats such as study guides.
Consider it when the difficulty is organising existing readings rather than finding another explanation from general knowledge.
Upload only material you have permission to use. Ask for a concise account of the relevant ideas with references you can open and inspect.
For the shared probability exercise, use the second round to examine whether its explanation accurately reflects the supplied solution.
Its limitation follows from that design: an answer grounded in your sources is not proof that those sources are complete, correct or appropriate for your syllabus.
Compare the generated notes with your unit outline. A neat summary is not evidence that every required concept has been covered.
For Coursework: Keep AI in a Supporting Role
Using AI to study a concept is not the same decision as incorporating AI-generated material into assessed work.
Before uploading an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or TOK draft, ask your teacher what assistance is permitted under your school’s current academic integrity procedures.
RevisionDojo describes AI-supported coursework feedback as one of its use cases. That identifies a product feature. It does not establish permission from your school, approval by the IB for a particular workflow, or proof that generated feedback is correct.
A useful approach is to ask for questions about unclear reasoning, missing evidence or unexplained choices. Then decide what to investigate and revise yourself. Do not treat suggested references, quotations, calculations or generated data as material you have verified.
The IB’s AI guidance says AI-generated material included in assessment must be credited in the body of the work and appropriately referenced in the bibliography.
Its academic integrity guidance also makes clear that work produced by an AI tool is not the student’s own work. Acknowledgment therefore matters, but acknowledgment does not turn outsourced authorship into independent student work.
For a practical explanation of the referencing side, see how to cite AI in IB coursework.
Keep a record of assistance used and follow your school’s instructions. An encouraging AI comment is not a substitute for discussing a substantive research decision with your supervisor.
Where Koncepts Fits, and Where We Are Weaker
Koncepts’ DP platform combines HL and SL context, command terms, markschemes, past-paper practice and guided tutoring within an IB-specific environment.
That combination is relevant when you want to move from learning a topic to attempting questions while keeping the programme, subject and level visible.
On the shared probability problem, apply the same expectation as elsewhere: guidance should help you reason through the next step, not merely display the result.
Our clearest limitation is that the free and paid access available to a particular student can change. Public Koncepts information describes free starting access with broader functionality available through paid or school access. Check the current access conditions for your account rather than assuming every feature discussed here is available without limits.
Try the available material before committing to broader access. We are not claiming a measured accuracy advantage over the other tools in this guide.
For course context, our guide to IB Maths AA or AI, at HL or SL can help you identify the distinctions your study resources need to respect.
Choose the Tool for Your Next Study Task
Start with one difficulty from recent teacher feedback.
For a confusing concept, evaluate the quality of the explanation.
For question practice, examine whether the guidance fits the course, level, command term and task.
For notes, inspect source coverage.
For coursework, establish the permitted boundaries before using any tool and distinguish feedback on your thinking from material that could become part of the submitted work.
Then close the chat and attempt something independently.
Before paying, confirm your subjects, syllabus version, usage limits, billing terms and applicable age requirements. Save the responses from your own trial so you can compare what happened rather than what a landing page promised.
The most useful AI tutor for IB is not the one that sounds most certain.
It is the one whose help you can verify and then use without needing it beside you.
